When I came to Portugal for the first time in 1995, I didn’t really think I would stay that long. But then I learned to appreciate and love the country and its people, and shortly afterwards I received my first commission to restore a dilapidated house: an old ruin in the hinterland of the Algarve.

Even then, I noticed that construction methods and their execution in Portugal are not comparable to those in Germany. I had to rethink and started to combine my knowledge with the local techniques.

Due to the fact that I had already worked independently in Germany as a trained painter in the restoration of old buildings and had gained experience in different regions – both inside and outside Germany – I knew that each region had to adapt to the climatic conditions and the available resources with regard to the execution of construction work by means of suitable techniques and materials.

At the end of the 90’s I opened my painting company here in the Algarve and specialised in the renovation of facades and the elimination of dampness problems and mould. Over the years I have attended many training courses and have applied this knowledge to my own renovation projects and tested new techniques and materials. Especially the older houses here in Portugal need an intensive and professional examination before starting construction measures, so that they are not “broken” by wrong procedures and lose their previously positive characteristics. Also through the cooperation with the company BKM Mannesmann, I and my team have been able to eliminate almost all moisture problems for some time now, in order to provide our customers with a pleasant and health-friendly living environment again and to guarantee the value retention of a property.

Of course, our team also takes care of all everyday painting work such as interior painting, wood preservation or varnishing. We are also your competent partner for smaller conversion, masonry and plastering work. Due to our successful and long-standing presence in the local market, we also have valid contacts to other trades such as gas and water fitters, electricians with EDP approval, bricklayers, window fitters, locksmiths, garden and landscape designers etc. as well as to German, English and Portuguese speaking architects and lawyers who can help you to realise your dream of your own home in this great country.

However, if you’re not one of the lucky ones who have already found the place of their dreams here in Portugal and are still looking for it, I can also offer to inspect the property in question and give you an independent assessment of its condition before signing a property purchase agreement. This can also be done if you cannot be on site yourself. In this case, I can visit the property together with the owner or the responsible real estate agent, analyse its structure and send you a detailed report and informative photos of any defects found or similar. This allows the layman to avoid unforeseeable costs regarding pending renovation work or to include serious building defects in the price negotiations.
